Rihanna joined Coldplay in Paris this weekend (totally typical, right??) and delivered a stripped down version of her hit "Umbrella" accompanied by Chris Martin (a.k.a. Gwyneth's hubby).

We might not be able to catch a ball from more than three-yards, but our hand/eye jazz-hand/threaded-eye coordination is skilled enough to capture the pop-culture zeitgeist of the past year. We may have endured more blackouts than homes affected by Hurricane Irene in 2011, but our love for pop-culture allows its brightest gems to shine through our sober senses. Once again, Instinct has assigned two of its sassiest editors—Jeff Katz, Senior Editor, and Jonathan Higbee, Associate Web Editor—the task of assessing the year in pop-culture, and this year's bountiful list of favorites might include the most eclectic selections yet. Coldplay's Mylo Xyloto is having an extraordinary debut week, due in no small part to the album's included track "Princess of China" with Rihanna, which is burning its way up the iTunes Top Singles Chart. Not wanting to dust off the Rihanna-magic quite yet, Coldplay joined BBC's Radio 1 Live Lounge to cover the Barbadian Beauty's No. 1 single (and our current fave cardio motivational track), "We Found Love." Yesterday we informed you that 1990s U.K. boy band take that caused confusion in a teenage Chris Martin who believed he might have been gay. Today, Coldplay's gorgeously lanky frontman continued the charade by telling Ellen that wife and baby-mamma Gwyneth Paltrow has "been a great beard for me now, for 10 years."
