The American Psychiatric Association (APA) approved a landmark revision to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.

Transgender and gender non-conforming individuals will no longer have their identities classified as a mental disorder. Until now transgendered people have been diagnosed with "gender identity disorder."

The upcoming edition of the manual, DSM-V, will diagnose transgendered individuals with "gender dysphoria."

Great news for our trans friends: the American Psychiatric Association no longer considers you "disordered" or "mentally ill," according to a long-awaited change that'll take place in the fifth edition of its DSM manual.

Equality Ohio has appointed Kim Welter, the organization's director of programs and outreach, to take over as the interim executive director of the state LGBT-rights group following Ed Mullen's arrest and resignation.
