Lawyers for the Waynesville School District agreed on Wednesday to allow Maverick Couch to wear his "Jesus Is Not A Homophobe" T-shirt on April 20 to recognize the Day of Silence, the annual national event meant to show solidarity with gay students. A final decision in Couch's lawsuit against the school district is still pending.

Christopher Clark, a Lambda Legal lawyer, officially states: “We're glad that Maverick is able to wear his shirt on April 20th. However, a student's First Amendment rights are not restricted to one day of the year. We will continue to fight …”

Cynthia Davis, the beloved principal of an Arizona high school, was fired by the Paradise County School District after they decided not to renew her contract on the basis of her sexual orientation. Davis, acknowledges that she is a lesbian, though she currently is not in a relationship.
