Lawyers for the Waynesville School District agreed on Wednesday to allow Maverick Couch to wear his "Jesus Is Not A Homophobe" T-shirt on April 20 to recognize the Day of Silence, the annual national event meant to show solidarity with gay students. A final decision in Couch's lawsuit against the school district is still pending.

Christopher Clark, a Lambda Legal lawyer, officially states: “We're glad that Maverick is able to wear his shirt on April 20th. However, a student's First Amendment rights are not restricted to one day of the year. We will continue to fight …”

Cynthia Davis, the beloved principal of an Arizona high school, was fired by the Paradise County School District after they decided not to renew her contract on the basis of her sexual orientation. Davis, acknowledges that she is a lesbian, though she currently is not in a relationship.

Members of the Anoka-Hennepin School Board refused to cave to the anti-gay PTA known as the Parents Action League yesterday when they voted to drop the policy that required teachers to take a "neutral" stance on homosexuality. They replaced it with a new policy that encourages acceptance and discussion on differences.  So what does the new policy entail, and what’s the backlash?

A video showing a 15-year old student beaten and bullied for being gay shocked viewers around the world. A petition urging the Union-Scioto schools in the Columbus, Ohio area to adopt an anti-bullying policy inclusive of LGBT students garnered more than 78,000 signatures. Still, Superintendent Dwight Garret says the school district isn't moved enough for immediate change to policy, though it is considering the adoption. Details follow.

We feel for the students of Mt. Thankfully, we're not alone in our concern for Mt. Dora students, as apparent by a clever petition that has captured national attention...
