Target is really aiming (hardy har) to get on our good side these days!
Though higher ups at the bulls-eye insist the new line of Pride t-shirts has zilch to do with that massive 2010 donation to anti-gay politico Tom Emmer, with 100 percent of sales going to the Family Equality Council, would criticizing the retailer nowadays just be splitting hairs? (Details follow.)

Today, a little over a year after Target lost its case against a pro-marriage equality group for canvassing outside a San Diego store, the bullseye retailer announced big news: a drool worthy line of home products from gay designer Nate Berkus will debut exclusively with the retailer this fall.
But with that huge $150,000 donation funding anti-gay causes still seared in our Mary minds (and the company's less than satisfactory handling of the resulting PR nightmare), are gays ready to celebrate the just-announced gay partnership?

Though it seems Lady Gaga was able to push Target toward a policy change, the business relationship between the two is now off, marketing sources close to the deal have reported. Allegedly, the two can't see eye-to-eye when it comes to political donations, an unfortunate trait of the relationship that lead Lady Gaga to abandon Target.
From Metro Weekly:
Bob Witeck of Witeck-Combs Communications was familiar with the dissolved deal, although he does not represent Gaga or any of the parties, and told Metro Weekly, "Despite the expectation that this was all unfolding as a deal, it has been in a sensitive stage of continued discussion for probably the last three weeks."
He added, "Quite a few people, even early on, were afraid it... FULL STORY

Last week we brought you the good news that Target had updated its donation policy in light of the year-long LGBT boycott. What we didn't mention (because we never would've guessed), was that Lady Gaga was the mediating party instrumental to the change. The retailer recently announced it will carry a special edition of Born This Way in May. It was during the talks over that deal, says Lady Gaga, that she voiced concern over Target's anti-gay past.
"That discussion was one of the most intense conversations I've ever had in a business meeting," Gaga told Billboard. "Part of my deal with Target is that they have to start affiliating themselves with LGBT charity groups and begin to reform and make amends for the mistakes they've made in the ... FULL STORY

It took over a year, but the LGBT boycott of Target seems to have finally paid off. The Minnesota-based company announced changes to its policies that govern political donations on Thursday. The updated policies come after a donation the retailer made to MN Forward, an organization that funded then-gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer, a Republican with clear and bold ties to anti-gay movements in the state.
Target's new guidelines for political donations establish a policy committee that works together with the CEO to navigate the tricky waters of corporate/political activities.
“The policy committee and our CEO are responsible for balancing our business interests with any other considerations that may be important to our... FULL STORY

Tags: national organization for marriage, minnesota, tom emmer, ad, commercial, dr martin luther king, wtf The National Organization "for" Marriage (NOM, NOM, NOM, if you will) has released a new ad in Minnesota supporting the state's controversial, very anti-gay gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer. (If the name sounds familiar, Emmer is the one who received a $150,000 campaign donation from Target successfully putting the bullseye retailer under the boycott shotguns of the GLBT.)
Make sure you haven't had breakfast yet because the barely-palatable ad from the wingnut group of bigots invokes none other than Dr. Martin Luther King to get its anti-Christian message of hate across.
Surely you have lots of feelings about NOM's choice of using Dr. King's famous speech in its efforts to get an anti-equality politician elected, so voice them in the comment... FULL STORY

A report a few weeks back showing that the Target backlash and boycott might be adversely affecting its stock options was turned on its head today after the anti-gay corporation released new numbers showing earnings that are robust and back in the black.
The company's second-quarter report not only show net earnings of over $679 million, but a market share that has increase over this time last year.
Meanwhile, Target's main competition, Walmart, reports that its earnings continue to drop for the fifth consecutive quarter.
Earlier this week Target once again refused to make any attempt to get its $150,000 donation to vehemently anti-gay MN gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer returned.

See what happens when we close the gAyTM?
Since Target's CEO defended a very anti-gay donation the company on July 27, the company has lost $1.3 billion in stock market capitalization; that's 10,000 times the $150,000 controversial donation made to homophobic Minnesota gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer, a high price for a company obsessed with low-cost.
From the TwinCities.com:
Target Corp. has lost $1.3 billion in stock market capitalization since a public controversy arose over its $150,000 contribution to help a pro-business, anti-gay-marriage Republican gubernatorial candidate.
Shares in the Minneapolis-based discount retailer have declined 3.5 percent since the morning of July 27, when Target Chief Executive Gregg Steinhafel... FULL STORY

HRC has responded to the Target/Best Buy donation debacle, calling on the companies to make it right and match their donations to a pro-GLBT organization:
“It’s a huge slap in the face to LGBT people and for that matter to all fair-minded Americans,” said Joe Solmonese, HRC president. “Two of our most trusted brands have contributed shareholder money that could help elect a candidate that wants nothing but the worst for us. Both companies talk about this contribution as a business decision. I would offer that it’s a really bad business decision. Both companies have now earned the bad will of LGBT people and fair-minded Americans. They need to make it right.”
This afternoon, HRC will send out a national... FULL STORY
