Kaitlyn Hunt, an 18-year-old high school senior in Florida, is facing felony charges as a result of alleged sexual contact with her 14-year-old high school girlfriend.
The case is gaining national attention based on the question of whether or not Kaitlyn is being charged because she's gay. Relationships between older and younger high school students are obviously quite common and usually don't result in the older member of the pairing getting arrested...

The New Mexico high school Jesse Tyler Ferguson attended gained national attention last week when it was brought to light that school officials were forcing a transgender male student, Damien Garcia, to wear a female graduation gown during the school's commencement ceremony.
The Modern Family star became aware of the story and has reached out to St. Pius High School directly on Damien's behalf.

While the fight for marriage equality certainly isn't over, the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force is already looking ahead to the next challenges our community will have to rally together to face.
The momentum in terms of marriage is unstoppable, but what about the Employment Non-Discrimination Act which serves to protect LGBT people in the work place? What about immigration reform so that LGBT binational couples aren't unjustly separated? Keeping LGBT youth safe? Making sure our elderly community members are protected and taken care of?

Hong Kong's highest court has ruled that a transgender woman has the right to marry her boyfriend. It's a huge step forward in the acknowledgment of the transgender community as being members of the gender with which they identify.
Though same-sex marriage is not currently legal in the country, this certainly bodes well for its future passage as well.
