The plaintiffs in the Proposition 8 lawsuit filed a brief to the U.S. Supreme Court today, formally asking the bench to end marriage inequality. Responding to the proponents of Prop. 8’s July 30 request for the Supreme Court to take the case, the opposition (those against Prop. 8 aka the pro-equality side) once again argued that Prop. 8 in unconstitutional and imposes unjustifiable harm. The American Foundation for Equal Rights has broken the news that the Ninth Circuit is set to make a filing in the Prop 8 case tomorrow.
On Tuesday, we will likely find out if the Prop 8 case goes back to the Ninth for a full en banc review by 11 judges or if the request is denied. Should it be denied, Prop 8 supporters will likely file another request that sends the matter of to the Supreme Court.

With organizations like the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) being intent upon using same-sex marriage as a wedge issue between gay and African-American voters, it’s great to see influential figures within the African-American community stepping up to voice their support for President Obama’s same-sex marriage stance.
Rev. Jesse Jackson (who’s no stranger to controversy), praised President Obama’s decision to support marriage equality, comparing the fight for marriage equality to the African-American fight against slavery and laws restricting interracial marriage.
