We know we came out of the closet nearly 20 years ago, but we might want to reshoot the whole scene after seeing how a French lesbian chose to throw open that door with such dramatic flair.

It's not the kind of wedding gift anyone would want to open, but Thierry Spietel, mayor of Sigolsheim, France, did just that when he received bullets in the mail after announcing his impending marriage to his partner.

Okay, relax, France.

In the wake of the French government's legalization of marriage equality, those that oppose same-sex marriage have taken to the interwebs.

But they're not just stopping at denouncing their legislation. Homophobic tweets, including those calling for the death of gays are suddenly trending in the country.

Marriage equality-related violence against gays has been occurring for most of April in France, three months after National Organization for Marriage head Brian Brown appeared in the country to add fuel to the anti-gay movement. Today, he's finally denounced the violence that has accompanied his group's work.

By a vote of 331 to 225, the French Parliament has given its final approval of marriage equality. It was the final hurdle for same-sex marriage in the country, officially making France the 14th country in the world to offer equality to LGBT couples. 

Will they break into song as they did in New Zealand? Will the anti-gay forces, lead by NOM, cause a riot? It's anybody's guess as France's Parliament votes for the final time on marriage equality. Watch live after the jump. 

Homophobes in France aren't letting civil rights become law without a literal fight. As opponents of civil rights find themselves frustrated with the inevitable success of equality, they're turning to darker and more dangerous means to get their antiquated and bigoted points across. 

Is anti-gay group NOM ready to wave a white flag in its losing battle for American inequality? Has it finally realized that time is not on its side in the U.S.?

One would be inclined to answer yes to the above questions after taking a look at the homophobic organization's new plans for world domination. 

NOM's been dabbling in French anti-gay activism over the past six months, so it comes as of no surprise that the group's first international offshoot starts there. 

The week of voting has wrapped up at last with the French Senate has giving final approval to marriage equality and adoption legislation. The bill will receive a technical reading in the Parliament before becoming law, but it's done and the deal sealed as of Friday afternoon!
