Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, and Scandal creator Shonda Rhimes has consistently been noted for consistently diverse cast of actors and characters on her shows.

Lately she's also garnered attention for her willingness to communicate directly with fans of her shows via Twitter, which is why it's no surprise that she didn't hesitate to speak freely when a fan Tweeted her the following question:

@yvonneh48 love your shows but why all the gay and lesbian story lines?

Find out what Shonda had to say after the jump.

Updated: Friday, 12:45 p.m. PST

Our friends at Towleroad brought it to our attention that our favorite daytime couple, Will and Sonny, were being censored on YouTube!

More accurately, their steamy kissing scene (complete with ::gasp:: the unbuttoning of a shirt!) was deemed "inappropriate" and an age verification was instituted.

More after the jump.

What would Will & Grace have been like without Will?

Or at least Will as we know him? Apparently we almost had to find out as according to Megan Mullally, who played our patron saint booze hound, Karen Walker, Eric McCormack initially turned down the role.

Why? He didn't want to play gay.

Watch the short clip from Mullally's interview on Larry King Now after the jump.

Days of Our Lives caught quite a bit of heat from our readers yesterday when it was revealed that the show's leading gay character, Will, would suddenly be doing the horizonal tango with a female.

Perhaps that why the show is also promoting its upcoming gay bullying storyline centered around the character, Sonny.

More info on how Days will tackle the gay bullying epidemic after the jump!

Do you feel TV getting gayer? And no, it has nothing to do with the upcoming premiere of Logo's The A-List. Today alone we've blogged about three different shows with large amounts of gay visibility. Media watchdog group GLAAD put some science behind the increasingly gay-ification of American TV to discover that shows are indeed stocking up on GLB(but no T, folks) characters in this year's Where Are We On TV Report.

According to GLAAD:

After more than doubling last year, the overall number of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) characters on broadcast networks continues a steady rise, though broadcast networks still report no transgender or black LGBT characters.

The report shows that 23 LGBT characters will account for 3.9% ...

After a summer of sPECulation (emphasis on Trevor Donovan's pecs, thank you very much), it was revealed that Donovan's character, the token jock, would be coming out of the closet this season on Beverly Hills 90210. While our Mary Minds were overwhelmed with ensuing fantasies, little did we know that castmate Michael Steger had hoped the homo honor would be all his.

Steger tells Hollywood Life, “I think I would have approached it organically and honestly. I would have been excited!"

"Trevor Donovan has a pretty amazing storyline coming up and I think that is going to be really cool to see how it unfolds. I would have approached it in a similar way and obviously allow it to grow through the storytelling.”

The rumor mill is a-swirl today with conjecture that iCarly's adorable Chord Overstreet will play Kurt's boyfriend this season on Glee.

Facts:

-- Chord has been cast to play Finn's rival football quarterback in season two.

-- At an Emmy party over the weekend, Jane Lynch said this about Kurt's boyfriend character: "They've cast him already. He becomes the new star quarterback and he's going to be Kurt's boyfriend." Still, Jane would not confirm Chord by name.

-- Jane did, however, say that Kurt's bf is boyish, blonde and boasts pouty lips.

It doesn't take a detective on par with La Toya or Nancy Grace to figure out that all signs point to Chord playing Kurt's boyfriend. Hmm, with 90210 prepping to have a football player come out of the...

Just like being gay is only one aspect of who we are and doesn't define us, so too is Hollywood entertainment moving in that direction, claims USA Today, which details recent TV shows and films with gay characters in a new story.

"The general trajectory has them transitioning from minstrel acts and punch lines to relatable everyday characters," says Queerty Founder David Hauslaib. "by and for the queer community. It's a new era where (being a gay family) is no longer a significant part of the story."

"These stories are interesting, they're edgy, they make for good entertainment," said Hauslaib. "Hollywood is a business, so they're telling good stories because it's good business. Gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people have...

After last week's failing grade from GLAAD, CBS execs say they are disappointed with the level of GLBT visibility on the network and promise change is coming.

"We know, and we will do better," said CBS President Nina Tassler. "[We'll] look for every opportunity we can to improve the numbers [of gay characters] we have represented in the cast. And we'll continue to focus on that as we go into development season. We're not happy with ourselves."

She also promised some changes as early as the new fall schedule, where The Good Wife, $#*! My Dad Says and Rules of Engagement will introduce new gay characters.

While $#*! My Dad Says is new, does anyone watch the other two shows??
