The New York Times published a great piece this weekend showcasing how gay military cadets are adjusting to a military culture in which they don't have to hide in the wake of 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell.'
Let's not forget that we're talking about eighteen and nineteen-year-old kids that will suddenly have the opportunity to live their lives openly as they prepare to defend our nation.
So how are they doing? Well from the looks of things it really does get better. More after the jump!

Huge news for LGBT veterans in California who were discharged from the military as a result of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" (DADT)!
Today, Governor Jerry Brown signed Assembly Bill 1505, authored by Assemblymember Richard Pan and co-sponsored by Equality California and Sacramento Valley Veterans, which designed to remedy inequities faced by veterans discharged under DADT and its predecessor policies.

Republican Senators Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma and Roger Wicker of Mississippi are clearly focusing on the most pressing issues facing our nation today.
Yesterday, the dastardly duo introduced a bill tiltled, Military Religious Freedom Act, which would prohibit marriage or "marriage-like" ceremonies on military bases unless the marriage is between one man and one woman. It would also allow military chaplains to refuse to conduct ceremonies involving same-sex marriages, according to the Associated Press.

If conservatives still have concerns regarding unit cohesion and troop morale now that the U.S. military is allowing gay and lesbian soldiers to openly serve, perhaps they'll rest a little easier with the publication of this recent study. (Something tells us even facts will have little impact.)
A study of the Israel Defense Force (IDF), which has allowed gay and lesbian servicemembers to serve openly since 1993, reveals that that the presence of gay soldiers does not undermine unit cohesion.

The repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" has ushered in many new firsts for the gay servicemembers, but we're thinking this is one they'll all be excited about. (It certainly has us eyeing the local recruitment center!)
The creators of OutMilitary.com are offering the first military focused location-based phone hook-up app!
So basically Grindr for our men in uniform? Yes, please! More after the jump. FULL STORY

Today the Pentagon celebrated LGBT Pride Month.
No, they didn't raise a rainbow flag, or have Naval soldiers in sailor suits performing "YMCA" or "In The Navy," but they did take the time to respecfully honor and acknowledge the sacrifices of gay and lesbian servicemembers.

A lesbian couple, at least one member of which is a military servicemember, participated in a commitment ceremony last month at Fort Polk's military chapel in Louisana.
Apparently this is causing quite the uproar among politicians and some Louisiana citizens. Same-sex marriage is banned in the Louisiana state constitution, and some are accusing the military members that conducted the ceremony and allowed it to take place of breaking the law.
How a commitment ceremony is being confused with a legal marriage is beyond us, but we'll let people speak for themselves after the jump! FULL STORY
