Earlier this week we were totally not surprised to learn that Provincetown had dethroned San Francisco as the gayest place in America, and possibly on the planet. However, now that the full list of the gayest cities in the country has hit our inboxes, we see that in the size category of large (our favorite!), San Francisco manages to hold a No. 1 spot like a fading glamour queen unwilling to give up its glory. With data the Williams Institute has gleaned from the 2012 U.S. Census, we are finally able to gauge which city in America is the gayest. (No, though Foursquare may say we have a mayor, the Instinct office does not count as the gayest city in the country.) So, which American gayborhood wins the tiara?

The Daily Beast spent some quality time and effort calculating the gayest cities in America. While we could have easily determined those stats judging by how many notches we put in our belts traveling from Pride to Pride this year, they decided to go more the “official” route.
The Gay/Lesbian Index value tells you how the proportion of same-sex couples among all households of a given metro area compares to the average for the entire U.S.
The top city may not be that much of a surprise, but some others on the top 20 definitely threw us for a loop. And gave us some new travel destinations... FULL STORY
