The New Mexico high school Jesse Tyler Ferguson attended gained national attention last week when it was brought to light that school officials were forcing a transgender male student, Damien Garcia, to wear a female graduation gown during the school's commencement ceremony.

The Modern Family star became aware of the story and has reached out to St. Pius High School directly on Damien's behalf.

Hong Kong's highest court has ruled that a transgender woman has the right to marry her boyfriend. It's a huge step forward in the acknowledgment of the transgender community as being members of the gender with which they identify.

Though same-sex marriage is not currently legal in the country, this certainly bodes well for its future passage as well.

Because clearly the school district has nothing better to do than regulate   a legal adult's self-identification, the Red Lion Area School District in Pennsylvania is refusing to call a transgender student by his chosen name at his high school graduation.

ABC News producer Don Ennis has bravely come out as transgender and has officially--and legally--become Dawn Stacey Ennis.

She says: “Today I begin anew. Please understand: This is not a game of dress-up, or make-believe. It is my affirmation of who I now am and what I must do to be happy, in response to a soul-crushing secret that my wife and I have been dealing with for more than seven years, mostly in secret.”

WalMart became a gender role battleground a month ago when a stranger advised an incredible father to nip his son's princess affinity in the bud so he "doesn't grow up to be funny."

The father's reaction is priceless, but just wait to hear how an older woman standing in the same line responded to the situation!

It's hard to believe, but apparently there hasn't been a transgender character in a mainstream superhero comic.

Until now. DC Comics brings the first ongoing transgender character to the mainstream in Batgirl #19, when Barbara Gordon's roommate Alysia Yeoh comes out as a transgender female.

It appears we're getting our daily dose of transphobia, this time delivered by pro-wrestler Hulk Hogan.

The Hulkster clearly missed any and all GLAAD-sponsored sensitivity training as evidenced by him oh-so-cleverly sounding off on transgender MMA fighter Fallon Fox.

Downtown Portland's Lonesome Pizza caused quite an outcry amongst the transgender community and their allies when a controversial menu item called "tranny stix" was highlighted by Transadvocate on Facebook.

The "tranny stix" (they're actually breadsticks) were paired on the menu with a picture of Lonesome Pizza co-owner Nic Reddy dressed in drag.

However, in a move that gives us hope (and has us ready to chow down on a slice), Reddy issued an honest apology. Check it out after the jump!
