Appreciating where we came from (not just the Margarita lunch time happy hour at Dos Campos) is near and dear to our cold homo hearts. Finally, a centralized real-world location has popped up in San Francisco so that LGBT history has a U.S. home that's not just on the web. Enter the gay History Museum in San Francisco, only one of two LGBT history museums in the world.
A soft-opening of the museum took place this week, but it'll get harder during the official Grand Opening Gala on Thursday, January 13.
The 'GLBT' History Museum can be found at 4127 18th Street in The Castro.

Debbie Downer Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) made a bleak prediction in an interview with The Washington Blade after assessing the GOP takeover of the House as a major roadblock in the struggle for equality.
Reports the Blade:
“Next year there’s no chance of anything happening,” he said of pro-LGBT legislation. “There’s zero chance.”
“It will be a status quo. They don’t have the votes to hurt us but we don’t have the votes to advance anything in the cause.”
Frank also said he was certain that Republicans would fail in an attempt to overturn D.C.’s same-sex marriage law.
“Do you think Barack Obama is going to sign a bill to repeal the D.C. marriage law,” he asked. “It won’t go through the Senate. There is no chance... FULL STORY

She's both faced criticism and garnered support after blogging about her son's cross-dressing Halloween adventure, and now the mother we've been cheering on -- who identifies herself only as Sarah -- has spoken out about her viral blog post.
"It's surreal," Sarah told ABC News. "If this matters to over 1 million people," she said, referring to the number of hits her story has had on various news outlets, "then I do have a moral responsibility to back up my words... FULL STORY

The tangible disenfranchisement the community felt in the months leading up to the midterms reveal themselves in numbers out today showing that Republicans garnered 31% of the gay vote this year, compared to only 19% in 2008.
Huffington Post explains:
The change from the last midterm elections in 2006 was not quite as large but an increase nevertheless. In 2006, 24 percent supported Republicans. Democrats' share of the gay vote rose from 75 percent in 2006 to 80 percent in 2008 and then dropped to 68 percent in 2010. Each year, approximately 3 percent of voters identified as gay, lesbian or bisexual.
While Dems gain more of the gay vote for presidential elections, the sharp increase this year could spell trouble for 2012. Looks like it’s... FULL STORY

There’s been chatter on gay networks this week regarding whether or not our beloved rainbow-striped, ever-lengthening acronym--now referred to as GLBTQi--is out-dated.
Those who contend that the default title for our community has no place in our modern-day struggles base their reasoning on the increasing fragmentation of each of its letters: the rights, lifestyles and identities of gays are becoming distinctly separated from the lesbian community's ideals; those who are bisexual or transgender feel disenfranchised from the larger acronym and regularly criticize the gay and lesbian communities for widespread intolerance.
Conversely, others stress that because of the continuance of national headlines devoted to the community, horrific ... FULL STORY
