The Human Rights Campaign is shining a national light on the New York City mayoral race by officially endorsing Christine Quinn for mayor. 

Quinn, the Speaker of the New York City Council, married her wife, Kim Catullo, last year.

With the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) potentially ending its ban on gay Scouts and Scout leaders, you'd think that'd be cause for at least a cautious celebration, right?? 

Not so fast. The policy that may replace the nationwide ban is giving the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) pause.

The proposed new policy would give sponsoring organizations permission to institute their own bans on gay Scouts and troop leaders at the local level.

Thirteen major companies have come together in support of the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act. 

The Business Coalition for DOMA Repeal, formed by the Human Rights Campaign, includes six Fortune 500 companies.

The Human Rights Campaign will be honoring Whoopi Goldberg with the 2013 HRC Ally For Equality Award at the LGBT advocacy group's annual gala dinner on February 2 at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City.

In sobering news (though it's Monday so practically everything is sobering news), the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program has announced that sexual orientation based crime is the second most frequent hate crime committed, second only to crimes based on race. 

This is according to the 2011 Hate Crimes statistics.

Corporations aren't the only entities that can expect to receive a grade card from the Human Rights Campaign each and every year; now cities risk getting a ruler to their hands if they fall short on equal civil rights for their LGBT populations. 

With the HRC's first ever Municipal Equality Index making its debut, which American cities have earned a top score on its LGBT-friendlines—and which have a lot of work to do?

It's pretty much a given that Morgan Freeman can narrate anything and both we and the general public will be all about it. 

That makes the Human Rights Campaign's snagging of the Oscar winner for their pro-marriage equality ad even more of a coup!

It doesn't hurt that Mr. Freeman is a genuine supporter of the marriage equality cause.

The Human Rights Campaign has released its annual Corporate Equality Index to rank the LGBT-friendliness of the business landscape as we prepare to head into 2013. The latest report reveals plenty to cheer about (including a record number of companies that boast top scores) and where the corporate world could use some improvement. Washington United for Marriage has officially claimed victory on Referendum 74!

With the referendum's approval, Washington state voters have affirmed marriage equality, officially giving us a clean sweep in all of this election's same-sex marriage races!
