Piers Morgan got triple-teamed by Sen. John McCain (AZ), Sen. Joe Lieberman (CT), and Sen. Lindsey Graham (SC) in a debate on same-sex marriage and whether or not it should be regulated by the federal government.

We'd say he handled himself pretty well. (Apologies for the triple-teaming imagery. There's not enough brain bleach in the world.)

Watch after the jump!

We are having severe deja vu. At this point, it's becoming increasingly difficult to remember which rights we have in which areas, but at least some leaders are still fighting for us. Details after the jump.

To remind the Senate that DADT repeal should be at the top of its pre-holiday break priorities, the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network will engage a sit-in action in the Senate Galley. Sen. Joe Lieberman is on board for the event which will see members of SLDN sitting in the Senate's presence until the polarized body passes DADT repeal. The chamber is expected to take up standalone legislation before on Saturday. SLDN and Sen. Lieberman will hold a press conference this afternoon, after which we'll update this post with any new details.

Another day, another DADT twist in Congress.

Sens Joe Lieberman and Susan Collins have apparently reignited DADT repeal in the Senate by introducing S. 4022, a stand-alone bill that makes the debate and possible passage of repeal a bit clearer.

The Courage Campaign reminds us of the key Senators we need to call to make this happen before they go on their holiday break (though plenty are saying they shouldn't be able to go home for the holidays UNTIL they do as the majority of Americans wish and end the ban on gays serving in the military.)

Yesterday we learned that Sens. John McCain and Carl Levin hope to strip the Defense Authorization Bill of its DADT repeal language; today, a coalition of equality-minded Senators, including Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Joe Lieberman (I-CT) and Mark Udall (D-CO) issued a press release urging that the language remains in the bill.

"We must act to put an end to the 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' policy that not only discriminates against but also dishonors the service of gay and lesbian serice members."

The coalition goes on to say that Congress must pass DADT repeal through the Defense Authorization Bill or it risks "disrupting" the military.

Yesterday we were finally afforded a moment we've been waiting too long to mention for -- the introduction of legislation that will repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell if passed. Let's relish the moment a bit longer with new video of Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and her colleagues discussing the proposed legislation.

It's been years in the making and perhaps, most will argue, years overdue, but legislation that would repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell has finally been introduced into U.S. Congress by Senator Joe Lieberman, along with Senators Gillibrand, Udall, Levin and Burris.

The Military Readiness Act of 2010 seeks to accomplish two goals (according to Senator Udall's HuffPo editorial):

  • Full repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." It will allow the Department of Defense to continue its study to determine the best way to implement the repeal, but ensures that the study remains dedicated to implementing repeal, not considering whether to repeal.
  • Ends discharges for gay and lesbian servicemembers immediately. While the study ...

Independent Senator Joe Lieberman has announced that he will introduce a bill to the senate calling for the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." He was quoted this morning in the New York Daily News as saying, "What matters is not the gender of the other person in your unit or the color or the religion or in this case the sexual orientation. It's whether that person is a good soldier you can depend on. And that's why I think it's going to work."

HRC went on to applaud the senator's decision:

“Senator Lieberman’s announcement of the introduction of a Senate repeal bill is a welcome development following what has already been a historic several weeks in the campaign to end “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,’” said HRC President Joe Solmonese. ...
