John Mayer hasn't been a major public presence as of late due to his self-imposed exile following his epic descent into douche-dom ( his "white supremacist David Duke dick" quotes, anyone??) and a battle with dangerous vocal chord issues.

But as he heads back into the public eye, could we be dealing with a more thoughtful Mayer?

The singer spoke with Rolling Stone and had some interesting insight into the bravery of Frank Ocean and Jodie Foster. See what he had to say after the jump!

On the red carpet for the Grammy Awards, cutie-patootie Jason Mraz name dropped hopefuls for another arena -- the debate over marriage equality.

Speaking to Popeater, Mraz said, The more straight people, the better, so big names that cause a stir in the media, like Kanye West and John Mayer. [Mayer's] recently been very transparent in what he's been saying or tweeting and I would love to see some more empowering transparency rather than material or self-loathing. Same as with Kanye -- I feel like he's such a huge presence that if he really promotes it and says, 'Listen, you need to do this,' more people would rally for the cause. The more straight heavy-hitters [that] speak up could really benefit the cause."

In one of the most astute Tweets I’ve ever come across, John Mayer has taken to Twitter to jump into Perth, Australia’s uproar over a Britney Spears concert.

About 100 fans left Britney’s “Circus” tour stop in Perth early, complaining of general unfriendliness from Our Lady of Cheetos and lip-syncing. Some of the disgruntled Brit fans are hoping to get their money back for what they say was a less-than-entertaining tour stop.

But Mr. Mayer, also in Australia at the moment, wielded an exceptional bit of enlightenment today in 140-characters or less: "If you're shocked that Britney was lip-syncing at her concert and want your money back, life may continue to be hard for you."

Amazing.
