President Obama has nominated Todd M. Hughes for a seat on the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Hughes, an openly gay man, would be the first openly gay federal appellate court judge.

Today, openly gay interim judge, Tracy Thorne-Begland received a full time appointment to the Virginia Circuit Court following a vote by Virginia's General Assembly. This comes after last year's rejection of his nomination based on his sexual orientation.

Hundreds of same-sex couples planning to tie-the-knot at Seattle City Hall on Sunday as part of Dan Savage's mass gay wedding were in need of an equally impressive number of judges to officiate the ceremonies. So, nearly a dozen judges announced today that they will volunteer their time and chambers to marry the couples as needed for the big celebration!

Following Monday's ruling, on Tuesday a second federal judge ruled against a similar injuntion requested by the Liberty Counsel and the National Assocation for Research and Therapy (NARTH). Unlike Judge William Shubb, Judge Kimberly J. Mueller found that California's ban on "ex-gay" therapy does not infringe upon the First Amendment rights of ex-gay therapists or the parents sending their children into reparative therapy.
