It's not every day that an 88-year-old legend of the silver screen writes you a personal note of thanks and encouragement, but that's exactly what one DORIS DAY did for the riders and roadies of AIDS/LifeCycle 2012!

Ms. Day, whose dear friend Rock Hudson died of AIDS, had a friend riding in ALC this year. She followed the progress of the event via the stories, pictures and videos on the AIDS/LifeCycle website.

Needless to say, she was impressed and sent a heartfelt note that was read aloud to all of the riders on the last leg of their trek.

See what she had to say after the jump!

We have to admit, though we're completely inspired by the 2,225 AIDS/LifeCycle riders, our first thought when we heard yet another person commit to riding a bike FIVE HUNDRED AND FORTY FIVE MILES was "That bitch cray!"

Though this is ALC's 11th year, it still always seems like an insurmountable task. And yet people do it, year after year, and they love it!

Following Team Instinct's Kameron Zach's Live Stream of his journey and seeing all of the daily vids and pics from the ride makes us believe that not only can we do it, but that it might just be the experiece of a lifetime!

Biking down the California coast? Sleeping under the stars? Tons of men communing with nature and driven by adrenaline?

AIDS/LifeCycle is made up of so many heroes, but we have to admit, we're thrilled that we get to highlight some of our own within Team Instinct!

Yesterday, we heard from Prop. 8 plaintiff Paul Katami, who's fighting for our civil rights alongside his partner, Jeff Zarrillo.

Today, we want to bring your attention to Team Instinct member, Dave O'Brien. Not only is this his second year-in-a-row participating in AIDS/LifeCycle, Dave (a talented writer/director) also works to increase HIV prevention, awareness, and education in his daily life, via the webseries In The Moment and various other activist projects.

He's also tracking his progress on the ALC trail via video clips!

More after the jump!

Regular subject and crush of this here blog, Randy Phillips (the gorgeous U.S. airman who gradually came out of the closet over YouTube as DADT was dismantled), is making us swoon even louder as he rides his way down the California coast with AIDS/LifeCycle 11. "I'm From Driftwood"'s Nathan Manske caught up with Randy on the Ride to ask what he hopes to get out of the world's biggest AIDS fundraising event. Naturally, Randy's altruistic and articulate answer sparks a major case of the vapors.

Paul Katami, one of the heroic Team Instinct members on the road right now with AIDS/LifeCycle 11, certainly got an extra boost today in the form of the Ninth Circuit filing.

Paul, along with his partner and fellow Instinct Leading Man Jeff Zarillo, is one of the plaintiffs represented by AFER in the Perry v. Schwarzenegger Prop 8 case. Earlier today as you surely already know, the Ninth Circuit filed a major decision to once again reject Prop 8 defendants. Instinct's Jeff Katz quickly caught up with Paul somewhere along the California coast on the Ride and got nothing short of a jubilant exclusive statement (and adorable victory picture you see above!).

So, what does Paul have to say about today's filing?

Today's ride was pre-empted from a certain rest stop based on weather, but our riders will be back on the road bright and early Tuesday morning!

Just keeping our cyclists, safe!

Updated, Monday, 3:12 p.m. PST

Here's the official statement from AIDS/LifeCycle:

"Some things we cant control. Thanks to Mother Nature, heavy rain delayed some riders while they were at today's lunch stop in Salinas or on  their way to it. Because of the delay, we're safely transporting them to camp at King City where hot showers and meals are waiting. http://instagr.am/p/Ld8mAzGu2p/"
