You don't need a brain scientist or a rocket surgeon (did we get that right?) to tell you that there are plenty of Lady Gaga haters in the world (and even within the very LGBT community she fights for). So which part of Saturday night's HBO "The Monster Ball" special should they follow the jump to watch so that they'll be convinced to never speak ill of Mother Monster or call her "talentless" again?

Last night, while performing in Columbus, Lady Gaga took a quick detour from the setlist we enjoyed last month in New York to run a few bars of "Captivated." As many Little Monster's know, the song--written by a 17-year old Stefani Germanotta before she donned the Gaga--is rarely performed live these days. Guess Columbus captivated Our Lady of the Gaga last night.

Quite the evolution of her sound, don't you think?

(Follow the jump for vintage video of Stefani performing the song at NYU)

Haters can hate on Lady Gaga 2.0 all they want, but bitch is actually doing something for our community rather than just pandering to gay fans with occasional shout outs. During a Friday night stop in Buffalo Lady Gaga called out New York State Senator Mark Grisanti, who in 2008 voted against marriage equality.

"There's a senator here in Buffalo that's on the fence about whether or not to vote for this particular bill and I would like to give you all his e-mail," Lady Gaga told fans at HSBC Arena. "His name is Sen. Mark Grisanti." The pop star then suggested there should be "2,000 e-mails in his BlackBerry this evening or tomorrow" asking him to change his position to support marriage equality in New York.

Later that night, Lady Gaga took...

If you don't know about 10-year old Maria Aragon's YouTube cover of "Born This Way" (it's reached over 17 million hits and earned her an appearance on Ellen), then you've been living under something that rhymes with rock (there are children listening!). Well, after hearing about Maria's endearing and masterful cover, Lady Gaga pledge to bring her up on stage for a duet when she brought the Monster Ball into Toronto. Lady Gaga made good on her promise this week, and what results is a teary mess of prosthetic unicorn horns, Mugler archive eyeliner and singed gold bangs. In other words, it's about as touching as a sweaty diva wearing nothing more than a bikini with a little girl on her lap can be (which, it turns out, can be pretty touching). ...

Ah, New York -- birthplace of what are easily the two gayest acts of our generation: Scissor Sisters and Lady Gaga. On Tuesday night, the disco balls aligned to return them all to Gotham for the HBO taping of the revamped Monster Ball.

Yes, regular Instinct readers might recall blurry pics (I was dancing!) blogged here a year and a half ago when the Monster Ball made it’s L.A. debut at Staples Center. So, naturally, the anticipation for what largely amounts to the same tour on a different coast didn’t leave me with the same tingles that rose up my spine in 2009. Maybe it’s the new back-alley Botox “doctor” I’ve been seeing who's to blame.

Anyhow, I’m pleased to report that, aside from a few brief graphics and...

Our favorite glam group made a surprising announcement this morning, canceling their European tour (sans the UK). In a message posted on the band’s website the group said, “We’re sorry to announce that Scissor Sisters have been forced to cancel their upcoming shows on mainland Europe. Due to funding issues, it has become impossible to make the tour work financially. The band are very disappointed, but it is beyond anyone’s control.”

It surprising both in the odd reasoning (can ass-less chaps really cost that much??), and also because the Sisters arguably have their largest following in Europe. It appears more than a dozen shows through November have been canned, while the December UK shows appear to still be on. The group...
