Former National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) chairman Julian Bond penned an op-ed aiming to increase the discussion of same-sex marriage within the African-American community.

The opinion piece was published in Afro-American newspaper, which is notable because the paper circulates in Baltimore, Maryland and Washington, D.C.

Maryland will be the site of a voter referendum on same-sex marriage in November and 25 percent of the state's voters are African-American.

Check out Bond's piece, "Why Marriage In Maryland Matters" after the jump!

On Wednesdy we reported that Mitt Romney threw on the flip-flops in one single speech faster than we can through on our Havaianas if we see a hot piece walking down the beach in Fire Island.

LGBT dems were rightfully upset with Romney's light-speed contradiction during his NAACP convention speech, but the Log Cabin Republicans aren't exactly rushing to defend the GOP candidate, either.

So, what does the LCR have to say about Romney's speech?

Rev. Dr. William J. Barber just took us to church—and we liked it!

The head of the North Carolina NAACP condemned Amendment One yesterday in a powerful speech that warned of the evils of a majority voting upon the rights of a minority, and the ramifications of limiting rights for a class of people. Clergy from around North Carolina assembled for the press conference.
