It was an explosion of cheers last night after the Santa Fe City Council voted 5 - 3 to allow clerks to issue marriage licenses to gay couples. The vote comes on the heel of last month's revelation that New Mexico actually might already allow for marriage equality.

Same-sex couples in New Mexico who want to tie the knot have been given hope by Santa Fe lawmakers.

According to a legal memo supported by Mayor David Coss, Councilor Patti Bushee and outlined by City Attorney Geno Zamora, marriage equality is currently legal in New Mexico.
