New York City's mayoral contest is getting a lot of attention not only due to the battle between Democratic candidates Christine Quinn (who would be the city's first openly gay mayor) and Bill de Blasio, but also because of discussion of de Blasio's wife's sexual orientation.

New York Magazine managed to track down the gay subway rider whose battle with a crazed homophobic subway "preacher" went viral

We think the clip struck a nerve not only because the man (NY Mag calls him "Karl") stood up for himself, but also because the entire train applauded him for doing so.

Check out what the press-shy gentleman had to say after the jump!
