The LGBT community suffered a huge loss today with the passing of Jeanne Manford, a true pioneering straight ally.

Manford, the founder of Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) was 92.

Sally Ride's sister, Bear Ride, confirmed her sister's sexual orientation in an interview with Buzzfeed's Chris Geidner.

Bear says, "I hope it makes it easier for kids growing up gay that they know that another one of their heroes was like them."

You might have read in the stall at The Eagle that we learned everything we know from a pamphlet provided at the free clinic. Actually, while there is important information to glean from those brochures, everything we practice was imparted from the glorious Jane Russell, who passed away today at age 89. According to family, the gorgeous star of such iconic films as The Outlaw and Gentleman Prefer Blondes had been suffering from respiratory problems. We will pour a (teeny!) bit of our lunchtime dirty martini for you, Jane. You will be missed.
