Last week we got a list of the Top 10 Gay Anti-Gay Politicians (see it here if you haven't already), and this week Mark Fiore and the SF Chronicle take it one step further with a cute animated video. It's un-embeddable, so head to the Chronicle to view.

The slippery slope argument got even messier today when Sen. John McCain's main rival for Republican nominee for the upcoming Arizona midterm J.D. Hayworth put in his tacky two cents.

"You see, the Massachusetts Supreme Court, when it started this move toward same-sex marriage, actually defined marriage -- now get this -- it defined marriage as simply, 'the establishment of intimacy,'" Hayworth said. "Now how dangerous is that? I mean, I don't mean to be absurd about it, but I guess I can make the point of absurdity with an absurd point -- I guess that would mean if you really had affection for your horse, I guess you could marry your horse. It's just the wrong way to go, and the only way to protect the institution of marriage is with...

San Francisco Mayor and GLBT ally Gavin Newsom is expected to announce his latest political ambition this afternoon.

According to the NY Times:

The on-again, off-again political ambitions of Mayor Gavin Newsom of San Francisco are expected to take another turn on Friday with an announcement of his candidacy for lieutenant governor of California.

For the less glamorous No. 2 position, Mr. Newsom’s chief opponent in the primary in June would be Los Angeles City Councilwoman Janice Hahn, who has been attacking Mr. Newsom as indecisive. On Wednesday, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa— who was once considered a potential gubernatorial candidate and has had a friendly working relationship with Mr. Newsom — endorsed Ms. Hahn, illustrating...

If you’ve wondered how gay GOP – who are harder to find than strict tops these days – are reacting to the Roy Ashburn scandal, Log Cabin member Charles Moran fills us in. If you don’t want to fast forward to the 5:15 mark, let me summarize the interview for you: Moran basically sidesteps chastising Ashburn for a notorious anti-gay voting record, blaming society instead.

When Roy Ashburn came out over the weekend on a California radio show yet pledged to continue voting for and going out of his way to support anti-gay legislation, it felt like there wasn't much more the disgraced state politician could say. That is, unless he had read Chuck Klosterman's (pictured) 2009 book Eating the Dinosaur, which lays out blanket statements for public people in troubled waters. One of Klosterman's soothsaying passages was dedicated to outed gay politicians who had built their careers on anti-gay beliefs. Eerie stuff.

"I will concede that I am more confused than the average person. I've spent my entire life denying who I truly was. But my motive for that denial was political, even before I was a politician. I always believed...

The biggest hangover in Hollywood was made worse today by news that Florida doesn’t want films with gay characters in its state.

The Associated Press explains:

Movie and TV productions with gay characters could be ineligible for a tax credit being considered in the state House.

Current state law grants tax credits on productions considered "family friendly" - with no smoking, sex, nudity or profane language.

The proposal by Republican Rep. Stephen Precourt of Orlando would increase the credit and expand the field of disqualified productions as those that include any "exhibit or implied act" of nontraditional family values and gratuitous violence.

Precourt says he's not targeting the gay community but that shows with gay characters would...

Though the CA State Senator Roy Ashburn hypocrisy has earned our ire, it has also -- as most political blunders do -- earned some real estate in the scripts of late night talk shows. Most notably (and hilariously) was Craig Ferguson's monologue, which was devoted entirely to poking fun at the outed anti-gay politician.

Is this another case of semantics, or does the majority of the public really believe that separate but equal is fair? While that approach may be looking at the glass half empty, from another angle, I guess it's good news that support for civil unions is growing, according to a new poll out from ABC and The Washington Post.

The survey finds that two-thirds of voters now support allowing us civil unions, while a slight minority (47%) believe that full-equality is the way to go -- a number that has remain unchanged for years.

"In the new poll, support for civil unions is at 50 percent or better across party and ideological lines," writes the Post. "Support for such arrangements is now 15 points higher than it was a few years ago among conservatives;...

Update:

Boies continued to poke holes in Miller’s direct testimony, and also his personal feelings toward gay rights.

“Do you believe that laws that discriminate against intimate relationships between gays and lesbians is prejudice?” asked Boies.

“I would vote to repeal such laws. I have no idea what good purpose would they would serve,” Miller answered.

Of course, the big misstep came when Miller, the witness on the Prop. 8 side and the supposed “expert” called federal laws prohibiting gays to serve or marry discriminatory.

“Are you aware of any official discrimination against gays and lesbians in this country today other than DADT policy?” asked Boies.

“I’m trying to think of other laws that are ...

Change.org's gay page poses a question so thought-provoking, we just had to bring it to you, intelligent Instincters: did Gavin Newsom sacrifice his career for gay rights?

In 2004, after Newsom bravely and briefly legalized marriage equality in San Francisco, fellow Democrats in the party began to distance themselves from the politician, once a rising-star. Even President Obama (before he was able to add that swanky title to his name with a little voting help from the GLBT) refused to take pictures with Newsom.

After abruptly dropping out of the California gubernatorial race, some speculate that Newsom's poster-boy status as a straight-ally for the gays has cost him his political career, while others maintain he is still the future...
