After Robbie Rogers came out, soccer has trumped hockeystick ball or whatever as our favorite athletic competition show sport thingymajig. So we were very happy to learn that fans of professional soccer who were attending a recent Portland Timbers match were met with an incredible display of LGBT support ahead of the International Day Against Homophobia on Friday. Downtown Portland's Lonesome Pizza caused quite an outcry amongst the transgender community and their allies when a controversial menu item called "tranny stix" was highlighted by Transadvocate on Facebook.
The "tranny stix" (they're actually breadsticks) were paired on the menu with a picture of Lonesome Pizza co-owner Nic Reddy dressed in drag.
However, in a move that gives us hope (and has us ready to chow down on a slice), Reddy issued an honest apology. Check it out after the jump!

Officials in Portland, Maine are expecting large crowds tomorrow, the first day marriage certificates will be available for same-sex couples in the state. Portland is one of only a few communities in Maine that are extending Saturday office hours to accommodate the anticipated love fest.

ABC News (and other news outlets) are highlighting Allan Fonseca, the young Lancome counter worker who risked his life to get numerous shoppers to safey during yesterday's shooting at Clackamas Town Center in Portland, Oregon.
Fonseca is presumably "family" (if we had to guess) so we take a little extra pride in his heroism!
