A group of students in the Fargo South High School production of The Laramie Project might have a future in PR.
The students in question, all cast members in the school play, sent the Westboro Baptist Church emails from fake accounts in a request for the infamous hate group to bring a protest -- and the national attention that come with it -- to their school. Westboro, still not understanding that its lunacy and often-confusing signs afford its targets more positivity nowadays than the negativity it intends, took the bait and agreed to protest Fargo's play. However, when police caught wind of the impending Westboro visit, an investigation was launched and the fake emails from the students discovered.
A spokesman for the school district... FULL STORY

Sure, Matt Zarley was People Magazine's first openly-gay "Most Eligible Bachelor," but he's easy on the ears, too. He rose the Billboard Club Charts with a focus on the dance genre, but in an effort to raise money for (and awareness of) the incredible Trevor Project, Matt turns it down a few notches to cover Pat Benatar's classic 80s hit "We Belong."
"I assume that the song (when Pat Benatar recorded it) was a love song," says Matt. "I hear the song as an anthem of unity. I think that regardless of your orientation or viewpoint, we are all of the same earth... FULL STORY

In a move that makes the Human Rights Campaign's acquisition of Harvey Milk's iconic Castro camera shop more palatable, the Trevor Project has announced a partnership that will take place in the building. The organization's esteemed Lifeline -- a crisis and suicide-prevention call center for struggling LGBTQ teens -- will now boast workspace alongside HRC in the historic building. In addition to the cohabitation, HRC has pledged a $10,000 annual donation for every year of the partnership.
Feel better about HRC's decision to move into Milk's old campaign headquarters?

Mondo Guerra, one of Instinct’s shining Leading Men of 2010 and gaydored Project Runway contestant (he was robbed) from the show’s most recent season, already helped the HIV positive community by announcing his positive status during a season 8 episode; now he’s increasing his advocacy by designing a World Aids Day t-shirt for Piperlime.
“I believe fashion can serve a purpose so I designed these T-shirts with the idea of loving and communicating with one another,” Mondo said. “The tree is a symbol of growth and loving yourself and the skull represents family and friends and remembering those who have passed.”
The tees will be sold at Pipeline.com beginning December 1 (World Aids Day) for $50.00, with $20 from each sale benefitting... FULL STORY

Developmental psychologist Ritch Savin-Williams thinks so.
In an essay penned for the Good Men Project (an acclaimed, inclusive online men’s publication that includes a FTM columnist), Savin-Williams argues that most GLBT teens are doing just fine. Savin-Williams goes further to suggest that the "It Gets Better" campaign might actually make things worse for GLBT youth by “promoting a false suicidal script.”
Writes Savin-Williams in a piece titled “The Gay Kids Are All Right”:
The recent tragic deaths of several teens who were gay, or were believed to be gay, have received national attention and reminded us of the unrelenting pain and desperation that we believe characterize the lives of gay youth. But this portrait is an... FULL STORY
