While in New York to address the U.N. and for a fundraiser, President Obama was protested by groups accusing him of slashing HIV/AIDS program funding and not doing enough to get a DADT repeal through the Senate. Many times during prepared remarks the president went off script to speak to the protestors.

We love a good gay rights protest. But what we love even more is this outfit!

That would be a papier-mache head of Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper. Canada is playing host to the G20 conference (where leaders from the Group of 20 rich and developing countries meet), and more than 100 protesters took to the streets to highlight GLBT inequality.

Reuters is reporting that the group chanted, "We're queer, we're fabulous, we're against the G20," as two dozen police on mountain bikes watched, breaking their strict formation at least once to tackle a rowdy protester to the ground.

Though the lunchtime showing was smaller than expected, the spirit was strong and the handful of protestors got their message in front of thousands of visitors to New York City's Times Square. A few images and video from today's event follow:

As GLBT couples across the world prepare for the annual Valentine's weekend protests, a few notable and symbolic protests enacted by individuals have gained headlines a few days early.

Florida

In Orlando, performance artist and activist Brian Feldman's campaign to highlight marriage inequality in the state came to culmination when he married a complete stranger.

New York

When Buffalo resident Kitty Lambert (don't you love that name?!) was denied a marriage license to her partner Cheryl, Kitty protested the discrimination by marrying a complete stranger named Ed.

From Pink BFLO:

Kitty’s point in approaching the City Clerk for a marriage license is that there is no religious basis for marriage, and it serves only as a legally...

The long awaited documentary chronicling the LDS Church connection with the heavily anti-gay Prop 8, 8: The Mormon Proposition, premiered Sunday at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah. The controversial subject matter drew protestors to the event, all of whom supported the message of the film. “Separate church and eight,” dozens of protestors chanted outside the Park City theater. (You can view a trailer for the film after the jump.)

"We think it's a shame -- a very big shame," demonstrator Joe Baker-Gorringe said Sunday. "If [Mormons] would have channeled [their time and money] into something more constructive, they would have helped a lot of people."

Counter protestors (also known as foes of equality), were absent from the event,...

There's some non-Prop 8 trial marriage equality news today coming out of Indiana and Hawaii.

First up, Indiana:

A constitutional amendment that would ban marriage equality in Indiana has been introduced into the state senate. The measure has been introduced in Indiana's House of Representatives before, where it passed one chamber before failing in the next. Though experts believe the discriminatory amendment will pass the senate, it is unlikely it'll make it out of the state house again, where democrats haven't allowed it to survive in the past.

And in Hawaii:

The civil union bill that went nowhere last year in Hawaii might be up for vote again this week in the state. The possibility drew thousands of protestors to rally against...

We don't care if every hipster in town dresses like they (or really does) work at American Apparel, it's to uncover any criticism of the LA-based apparel company, especially because it continues to pump out Prideful t-shirts (tasteful ones we can actually wear in front of mom).

First, it was the "Legalize Gay" shirt spreading our plea for equality across the chests of America; now it's vintage photographs redesigned as artistic t-shirts that are knockin' our neon yellow tube socks off...

Our President and Nobel Peace Prize winner will speak to the guests at the 13th Annual Human Rights Campaign National Dinner tonight—it's only the second time a sitting President has spoken at this event (Bill Clinton did in 1997)—but Obama's scheduled appearance  is causing quiet a stir.

There are protests planned for outside the event—by gay activists unsatisfied with Obama's handling and follow through on campaign promises. On the eve of the National Equality March, most are expecting a lot from Obama.

Let's see if he deilvers.

We're hoping for real action tonight and not just eloquent rhetoric. We'll be on the scene to give you the very latest. Follow us on Facebook or Twitter beginning at 6PM EST.

Try as we might, the simple truth is we will never get everyone to support full gay equality. Whether it’s marriage, the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, or support for federal laws protecting GLBT workers, there is always going to be some asshole holding a sign he made with his finger paints telling us we don’t matter.  Or that we’re evil, or our love is an abomination, or it’s absolutely indecent the way we tease would-be normal straight boys with our lean bodies and tight, tight clothing.

But understanding there will always be someone in a Rebel cap shouting his crazy at our marriage rallies and Pride parades, we should not hesitate to take advantage of the opportunity that presents itself with the increasingly raucous healthcare...
