Could there be a better symbol of the political fight for marriage equality than Jennifer Roback-Morse's hunting ear protectors? Like a tantrum throwing teenager who plugs their ears and screams "I'm not listening, I'm not listening, I'm not listening," the National Organization for Marriage figure head donned the sound-blocking headwear to a recent rally so that she didn't have to hear LGBT supporters call her a bigot.

North Carolina's own Pam Spaulding (one of the most prolific LGBT bloggers today) was rightfully outraged following yesterday's breaking news that lawmakers in her state approved a wide-sweeping anti-gay amendment. Utilizing the eloquence and passion that her readers and fans appreciate, Spaulding spoke at a vigil in Durham last night, one of many held across North Carolina to mourn the abrupt loss of equality. Follow the jump for video of one of the state's leading LGBT activists reacting to the nightmarish situation.

It won't be bird-safe imitation rice that the Westboro "Baptist Church" plans to toss the way of the first married same-sex couples in New York City this weekend, but instead insults and insanity. The clan has just released its protest schedule which includes four stops in NYC on Sunday, July 24, the first day of marriage equality. They always say to take something old, something new, something borrowed and something bigoted to your wedding, right?

A courageous coalition of drag queens, lesbians, queers and gays blocked Midtown Manhattan morning rush hour traffic at the intersection of 6th Avenue and 42nd Street on Tuesday morning. Organized by Queer Rising, protestors gathered to demand immediate marriage equality in the Empire State in flamboyant, disruptive fashion reminiscent of Stonewall. Sadly, eight participants holding the banner blocking 6th Avenue (which read, "NY Demands Marriage Equality Now!") were arrested.

Says Queer Rising's Jake Goodman in a statement after being arrested himself, "We do not enjoy inconveniencing drivers on their hectic morning commute, but we less enjoy living without the 1,324 protections and rights granted by state-recognized marriage. We only hope...

For the second consecutive day our Picture of the Day documents grass roots DADT repeal activism. Today's poignant offering is an image just shot at the SLDN-sponsored rally in D.C.

Along with the photo comes word that Nancy Pelosi pledges to get DADT repeal passed if it comes to the House in a stand-alone bill, which, conveniently, Sens Lieberman and Collins put forth this morning.

Said Pelosi early today (via Talking Points Memo):

"An army of allies stands ready in the House to pass a standalone repeal of the discriminatory policy once the Senate acts."

Yesterday was a little bittersweet. Don't get me wrong--joy, joy, joy, a few tears over a slice of strawberry cheesecake and more joy were all part of my "Day of Decision" experience.

But, as a recent L.A.-to-NYC transplant who celebrated in the streets of West Hollywood in the summer of 2008 during that brief "window" when equality was available to all Californians, who cried with loved ones on November 4, 2008 when it was abruptly stolen, who immediately (and regularly) took to the streets all over Los Angeles to march in disgust in the ensuing months--not being back at the ground-zero that is California to celebrate with my community put a damper on the evening that I didn't expect.

Still, being with the gay community in downtown New York,...
