The University of Virginia's Student Council is actively trying to usher its student body (and alumni) into the 21st century, by unanimously approving a resolution that condemns the unwritten insertion of the phrase "not gay" into the school's traditional "Good Ol' Song," which is sung at university sporting events.
Outsports explains that since the 1970's student's have been inserting the word "not" before the lyric "gay," which was presumably meant to mean "happy" when the song was written.
The Student Council is, rightfully, over the use of this outdated, homophobic, and inflammatory rhetoric.

In further proof that it's regaining its progressive-cred in the gay world, the California Senate has approved a resolution passed first by the state's Assembly asking the federal government to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act immediately.
“We're proud of the California legislature for making the state's opposition to DOMA official state policy,” said Equality California's Geoff Kors. “Now we must overturn this discriminatory federal law and pave the way for the marriages of same-sex couples to be recognized at the federal level.”

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is expected to sign the resolution, the first in the country, ahead of an April 11 rally to highlight the disparities GLBT Americans endure because of the program.
A press release from the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center reads, "The city council of Los Angeles has unanimously passed a resolution calling on the federal government to end Social Security policies that deny equal benefits to same-sex couples.
