Rutgers University has combined its resources with the Tyler Clementi Foundation to form the Tyler Clementi Center.

The Center, named after the Rutgers freshman that took his own life after a private sexual encounter he shared with another man was broadcast across the internet without his consent, "will draw from academic disciplines across the university and throughout the nation to create new programs and approaches to address issues that confront young people – specifically vulnerable youth making the transition from home to college."

More after the jump.

Updated, Monday. 4:15pm PST

The defense rested today in the Dharun Ravi trial surrounding the suicide of Tyler Clementi.

Ravi, 20, is not being charged with Clementi's death (Tyler Clementi committed suicide on Sept. 22.). He is, however, being charged with 15 counts of invasion of privacy, witness and evidence tampering and bias intimidation, which is classified as a hate crime.

Ravi declined to testify on his own behalf.

Ravi faces up to ten years in prison after being accused of using a web-cam to spy on his roommate during a same-sex sexual encounter, and allegedly encouraging others to watch.

Closing arguments are scheduled for Tuesday.

Jury selection begins today in the trial of Dharun Ravi, the Rutgers student accused of spying on his gay roommate, Tyler Clementi, via webcam in the midst of a sexual encounter. Clementi committed suicide soon after when he jumped off the George Washington Bridge.

Ravi’s attorneys plan to argue that Ravi, 19, actually held no ill will towards Clementi, based on some conciliatory texts that he sent to Clementi after it was revealed that he’d been spying.

Unfortunately these private texts contradict Ravi’s public statements.
