One brave mother is standing up against the sexual orientation neutrality policy in Anoka-Hennepin schools, which Minnesota public health officials have deemed as a "suicide contagion" because of the unusually high number of suicides and attempted suicides, according to the school district's website. Yahoo! News reports that the DA is seeking a new trial. Over the next month, prosecutors will decide whether to select a new set of charges or to drop them, said James Ellison, the chief assistant district attorney.

"We don't know at this point if we will modify the charges," Ellison said. "The jury's inability to reach a verdict in this case will be a factor. We'll consider everything."

An option could be sending the case back to juvenile court if prosecutors are willing to drop the special allegation of lying in wait, which could carry a more severe penalty. This would allow Brandon to be released before his 25 birthday.

Prosecutors could offer McInerney another plea deal, too. His attorneys...

The Southern Poverty Law Center and the National Center for Lesbian Rights filed the lawsuit on behalf of "five students who have faced severe anti-LGBT (lesbian gay bisexual transgender) bullying and harassment while attending school in the (Anoka-Hennepin) district," a joint press release said.
