The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Office of Smoking and Health is including members of the LGBT community in its new anti-smoking campaign.
That makes sense considering CDC data shows that LGBT people are almost 70% more likely to smoke cigarettes than others. (Sidebar, what's with people lighting up after they leave the gym??)
Check out the CDC's video with Ellie, who currently lives with her partner in a smoke-free home. Ellie suffers from asthma caused by second-hand smoke; she's never been a smoker. Watch after the jump.

So the Smoking Gun did some digging and came away with a comprehensive report -- including photos -- of Bea Arthur's time working for the Marines in the 1940s. Seems Bea enlisted when wind first swept up to her six-foot high ears that women were beign given jobs with the military. The Smoking Gun's report shows that she started as a typist, moved her way up to driving trucks before working her way up to a sergeant. Best part is -- BEA DENIED ALL OF THIS.
That's right, Bea Arthur took her stint in the Marines to the grave, claiming it was all conjecture. Lesbian rumors ran in parallel with her career, so my finger is on that as the culprit.
But here's Smoking Gun's proof that our lady Bea, may God rest her soul, was one of the brave and ... FULL STORY

Most state and national health surveys do not collect information on sexual orientation and gender identity; however, there are current data indicating the LGBT population smokes at a higher rate than the general public.

35 in every 100,000 gay men develop anal cancer compared to less than one in every 100,000 heterosexual men
