New comments from Peter Sartain—the notorious anti-gay bishop of Washington—remind us to pour some of our third morningtime mimosa out on the sidewalk in memory of the lost civilizations of the Netherlands, Canada, Spain, Norway, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Portugal, South Africa, Iceland and Argentina, who all crumbled "beyond repair' after extending civil marrige rights to all couples.

Two county clerks in Illinois have been given the green-light to defend Illinois' same-sex marriage ban against a lawsuit filed in the state's Cook County by 25 same-sex couples.
Cook County State's Attorny Anita Alvarez and Attorney General Lisa Madigan have refused to defend the same-sex marriage ban, citing their belief that it is in violation of the Illinois constitution. (This is similar to the Obama administration refusing to defend DOMA, based on their belief that it violate the US constitution.)

Mississippi state Rep. Andy Gipson has forgotten about a little thing Americans have called "separation of church and state" by basically giving his constituents (a.k.a. his bosses) the middle finger. Instead of caring what his diverse constiuency thinks, Gipson announced via Facebook that the only "opinion" he will obey is God's. (Gipson's interpretation of the Christian God, in case you didn't get where we were going with this.)
It gets way better, errr, worse from there, so follow the jump and catch a ride on today's crazy train!

Another reason to admire fundamentalist Catholics today (I try to refrain from blanket assumptions and do, in fact, realize that not all Catholics are cold-hearted and vehemently-homophobic) has arrived in the form of a disgusting rant from the American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property. The group, a thinly-veiled Catholic organization, claims that a repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell will have openly gay soldiers spreading their AIDs and other STDs around the military. Classy.
According to the group, “During wartime, men are in continual contact with each other’s blood. Therefore, the well documented increased disease rates of homosexuals would cause them to be perceived as a risk rather than an asset to unit... FULL STORY

The American Cancer Society has released a sobering new report announcing new figures showing the GLBT at a higher risk for certain cancers than our straight counterparts.
The main stats that we need to glean from today's report include:
Lesbians and bisexual women are 1.5 to 2 times more likely to smoke and gay men are 2.0 to 2.5 times likely to smoke
Lesbians are 2.3 times more likely to have never had a Pap test
35 in every 100,000 gay men develop anal cancer compared to less than one in every 100,000 heterosexual men
“The American Cancer Society is committed to saving lives in the LGBT community by helping people stay well, helping people get well, by finding cures and by fighting back against cancer,” said Kay Coleman,... FULL STORY
