Another year, another International Pride Month that won't include Moscow on the calendar of events. 

Once again, city officials in the Russian capital have refused to allow permits to host gay pride events in the city, surprising no one, unfortunately.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has already stated his opposition to foreign gay couples adopting Russian children, but it appears he now wants to take things a step further.

The President may go so far as to ban adoption by citizens of countries that recognize marriage equality.

We might be covering St. Petersburg Pride sooner than we had imagined thanks to a historic ruling out of the Kostroma regional court in Russia. After hearing an appeal brought forth by organizers of Moscow Pride and heroic activist Nikolai Alekseev, the court ruled that gay pride events do not constitute as "propaganda," which is banned in St. Petersburg.

Tattoos on the butt or near sexual organs are as close to gaydar as the homophobic Russian Defense Ministry can get, apparently. According to the Ministry, tattoos in these regions indicate a person's sexuality, so it will naturally force soldiers to drop trou so that doctors can interpret their tattoos like some sort of inkblot Rorschach test.

A bill to ban "gay propaganda" in Russia will come up for a vote by lawmakers later this month. This national bill will be similar to St. Petersburg's anti-gay propaganda legislation that's currently on the books.
