The legislation made headlines weeks ago when Senate GOP tossed in (and, just as quickly, out) a provision nicknamed "License to Bully" that protected those who bully on religious grounds. Updated Tuesday, 1:35 p.m. (PST)
Thanks to state Senator Gretchen Whitmer and the bad press nationally, the religious exemption has been stripped from the anti-bullying bill that is working its way through the Michigan legislature.
However, LGBT groups are still unsatisfied. The edited bill still does not specifically outlaw bullying based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
But at least a kid can't beat the crap out of gay classmate claiming God told him to and technically get away with it. Unfortunately, the panic defense may still hold up in the eyes of many of these lawmakers.
Get it together, Michigan.

Golding lost her bid for a state senate seat during Tuesday's elections and today NOM has unsheathed its claws to call its bigoted bedfellow a "weak candidate."

New York Sen. Greg Ball—who seemed to be enjoying all the camera time and attention he had received for remaining so publicly "undecided" on marriage equality—has revealed today that he will unsurprisingly vote no for efforts to provide all of his constituents with equal treatment under the law. When marriage equality came up in the NY Assembly, Sen. Ball also voted for discrimination. Follow the jump to read the d-bag's excuse this time around.
