Lawyers defending DOMA are certainly reaching--all the way back to 1885, in fact, in their attempts to legally justify the Defense of Marriage Act and the "traditional definition of marriage."  They're arguing that an 1885 polygamy case established a traditional definition of marriage.

The current case centers around Edie Windsor, a widow suing to recoup a $350,000 federal estate tax bill she was forced to pay because DOMA prevented her marriage to a woman from being recognized by the federal government.

Well, this actually took longer than I expected: after what was likely countless meetings, Brian Brown, head of the National Organization for Marriage, and Maggie Gallagher, board member, have manufactured a way to turn the Kardashian divorce into a bumper sticker for their homophobic activism. So, how has NOM managed to blame gays for the Kardashian divorce and turn what was amounting to an opportunity for marriage equality against us?

Mitt Romney became the first GOP presidential candidate to promise not to sign that alarming pledge from Iowa's "Family Leader" declaring homosexuality a choice, marriage equality an abomination and children born into slavery more successful than children born since abolition. It's not much, but we'll dust of the "Lesser of the Evils" crown (we haven't used it much since the Bush II era) and let Mitt wear it a bit today. Details follow. 

The gay-fearing Texas House of Representatives has just passed a bill that requires any public college in the state providing a "center" for LGBT students to equally promote safe-havens and community outreach for marginalized straights.

Apparently there are a few thousand followers who are, and they are planning to take over California's state capitol for church repentance and push for the return to traditional marriage.

"TheCall To Conscience" will gather Christians and leaders in Sacramento this Saturday, Sept. 4, for prayer and renewal. The press release (that for some reason was sent to Instinct??) reads that the demonstration is necessary "as the Christian church faces the problems of no-fault divorce and pornography within and attacks on life, traditional marriage and religious freedom from the outside."

The same group held a march on a Houston abortion clinic earlier in the year, which they claim had a turn out of more than 10,000 protesters. But ...
