Josh Moore, a 26-year old in West Virginia, has had his X-Box Live account reinstated after being originally suspended for listing Fort Gay (an actual WV city) in his profile. Even after pleading with the Microsoft enforcement team and supplying authentic Fort Gay zip codes, his location was still determined to be an offensive term.

"At first I thought, 'Wow, somebody's thinking I live in the gayest town in West Virginia or something.' I was mad. ...

Microsoft is now allowing Xbox gamers who use its Xbox Live service to come out of the closet. After a fair amount of controversy for a policy that forced users to remain silent on their sexuality -- which Microsoft claims was for their protection -- the company has today announced changes to its policy. Besides now letting gamers declare religion, race and nationality, Xbox Live lets has finally allowed players the option to plug in their sexuality, including the pre-determined classifications gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and straight. Slang terms are still not allowed out of fear of harassment. How long until queer, questioning and other viable identities pressure the gaming giant?
