Today, the lovely Cyndi Lauper showed her "true colors" (sorry!), when she visited Capitol Hill to speak on behalf of homeless LGBT youth and advocate for programs that provide needed housing and support services.

New York City’s Mayor Bloomberg released the city’s new budget and it cuts a whopping $7 million from New York City’s Runaway and Homeless Youth Services. The budget calls for the elimination of 160 youth shelter beds.

We’re sorry, what?

Instinct Leading Man, Carl Siciliano¸ the executive director of the Ali Forney Center, the leading provider of shelter to homeless LGBT youth immediately released a statement contesting this move on the part of Bloomberg’s administration. More after the jump.

Friday, April 20 marks the official “Day of Silence” sponsored by the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network (GLSEN).

According to GLSEN, “The National Day of Silence is a day of action in which students across the country vow to take a form of silence to call attention to the silencing effect of anti-LGBT bullying and harassment in schools.”

Heart wrenching news to report out of Iowa today. Kenneth Weishuhn, a 14-year-old Iowan who came out as gay just last month, died from bullying-related suicide on Saturday.
