That's what people are saying, anyway. Even though the presidential election isn't until 2012, openly gay -- and hugely popular -- Paris mayor Bertrand Delanoe won re-election by a landslide over the weekend. Apparently, he's the most popular politician in France.
Additionally, his Socialist party won key seats all over the country, a signal that people are already over newly-elected president Nicolas Sarkozy. From the folks at 365gay.com:
Since becoming mayor Delanoe has been hugely
popular, particularly with the poor and middle classes.
But his popularity also is high outside Paris and
a growing number in the Socialist Party see him as their strongest hope for
defeating Sarkozy in the next election - scheduled for 2012.
Maybe the unflattering shirtless pictures of Sarkozy, completed with airbrushed lovehandles, also had something to do with it?
Or the fact that, immediately after taking office, Sarkozy dumped his wife and married Italian supermodel Carla Bruni? (See, in France, you keep your wife and just date supermodels on the side. Duh!)
