A colleague at MTVu (MTV's college offshoot) tipped me off to this interesting new web project they've started: PosOrNot.com, a takeoff of hotornot.com, designed to increase HIV awareness among young people. (Unless you've been living under a rock, you know that HIV is on the rise among young people, including alarming amounts of young gay men.)
It's set up like an internet game, where you are supposed to guess whether or not the people pictured are HIV-positive.
A little more about PosOrNot.com:
It represents a fresh way of reaching college students and young people with a
simple but powerful message: there's no way to deduce someone's HIV status from
what they look like, listen to, dress like, do in their free time, etc.
The game is designed to speak to students in their language, while taking aim
at the stigma that prevents so many young people from talking about the
disease, getting tested and using protection.
Seeing people putting their faces and stories regarding HIV out there is powerful, indeed.

This would be one way of addressing people's happy go fucky attitude.
