Turns out Lee Daniels wasn’t the only out artist working on Precious. Singer-songwriter Dan Manjovi flexed his musical muscle on the film’s soundtrack, writing an original song performed by singer and actress Grace Hightower. The track, “Something’s Comin’ My Way,” may have proven to be more than just inspirational for the characters. Dan quickly found himself wrapped up in the Precious excitement, hitting the premieres, getting to meet industry heavyweights, all leading up to his recent trip to L.A. for Oscar weekend.

Let’s talking about “Something’s Comin’ My Way.” Did you write this specifically for Precious?

Yes, it was written at Lee’s request.

Did you know Lee before this?

I met Lee through Grace...

We love her, but Joan Rivers is so 2000. So, with Hollywood’s streets finally reopening and celebs finding their dignity after a long night, we have assembled a crack team to tear into critique the best and the worst of last night’s red carpet.

Designer and Project Runway finalist Suede is here to give his two fashion cents, while Pandora Boxx, this season’s hysterical standout from RuPaul’s Drag Race, has put her fightin’ wig on and is ready to go toe-to-toe with Instinct’s Jeff Katz, Christopher Jones and TJ Jarboe as we give our gay takes on Oscars 2010. You've been warned, no one is safe. And first up is...

You already met Noah Landis in March’s Spark Opener page and learned a bit about how he took a passion for fashion and turned it into a hot denim brand. Now, we get more from Noah about where the inspiration for Kent Denim comes from, where the company is headed and who the heck is Kent, anyway? Plus, check out some of the newest Kent designs as seen on cutie Matt.

You say that much of your inspiration comes from the streets of San Francisco. How so?

San Francisco is a city full of individual style. I see what’s going on in the streets and just pull that into my own bucket of design influence and translate it out.

And Kent Denim has grown to offer more than just jeans, right?

We have grown into an entire mens line, which...

We’re as committed to our covers as we are to our pre-Speedo season carb-free diets. Not to pat ourselves on our muscular shoulders (we wish!), but whether off-the-radar delicious male models from the early days of Instinct or pop icons like Beyonce and Kylie in recent years, our covers have made pop-culture splashes. Not ones to love ‘em and leave ‘em as easily as John Mayer (allegedly), we thought it’d be fun to check in with notable Instinct cover guys of the past to see what they’re up to now.

First up for our fun experiment is Djalmar Castanera, Instinct cover model from October 2000. Though 10 years might translate into 17 using gay mathematics, Djalmar is just as hot as back in the pre-9/11 days, and still boasts that sexy...

She’s gorgeous. She can sing her ass off. And she lives for a good drag show. What’s not to love about Kelly King? Not to mention her latest video took over Logo and she’s performed at the biggest nightclubs and best Pride celebrations across the world. As Kelly attempts to make it three for three Billboard hits with her new single “Gravity,” she spoke with Instinct about making and promoting music on her own terms, finding her nearly six octave range and which drag superstar she considers a true “Workin’ Girl.”

INSTINCT: How does a Nashville girl with a bit of a country background end up in NYC with a huge dance hit on her hands?

KELLY KING: The question is, ‘Really, how did I wait so long?’ [Laughs] From the time...
