Tags: web exclusives, fall tv preview, september 2010, instinct, glee, modern family, grey's anatomy, real housewives of atlanta, the event, better with you, chase, the defenders, swag suite We’re just days away from the start of fall TV, and while you’re busy clearing off old episodes of So You Think You Can Dance from your DVRs (no? Just us?), we took the time to comb through all the pitches, trailers and teasers for the new crop of shows to sift out the good from the bad. So, here are our picks for the new ideas and returning faves that we think you should be tuning in to.
Newbies:
Chase
While last TV season may have been all about the medical dramas (Mercy, Trauma), this season is apparently all about the law. Chase got our attention not only because it means NBC is going straight procedural with this U.S. Marshall crime show, but having Jerry Bruckheimer’s trademark action should mean more exciting TV... We’d be fibbing if we said we weren’t proud of what the gorgeous Mark Hewlett went on to accomplish after making us drool on the cover of our April 2001 issue. Whether it was the addition of his Adonis-like body on the cover of subsequent national magazines like Men’s Health or his butch takeover and eventual championship of Fear Factor, we like to think we discovered the Zimbabwe-born model/actor/activist. We were lucky enough to get Mark on the phone while he was still in his wetsuit after a morning of catching waves in Laguna (you’re welcome for that image), and found out what he’s been up to since receiving the Instinct stamp of gaypproval over ten years ago.

Tim Gunn has been giving the tough love to would-be designers on Project Runway for years. But now he’s getting real with the rest of us in his new book, Gunn’s Golden Rules. Our favorite mentor isn’t just dispencing life advice in the book, though. We caught up with Tim in our new September issue to talk about writing, gossiping and more—and more is exactly what we have! Check out these exclusive excerpts from our chat with Tim.
I know when you did Instinct’s Soapbox last year…
Which I loved, by the way! I love that!
Oh, good! As did we. And I remember you said in that that if anyone ever saw you as a gay role model, that’s the best compliment you could ever get.
Absolutely! I have to tell you, it’s thrilled me and I ... FULL STORY

Tags: instinct, september 2010, web exclusives, mom of the month, isyourchildgay.com In the new September issue of Instinct Magazine, we introduce you to a very special mom making a difference in more than just her son’s life. Deborah Hawkins isn’t just defending her son, David, in the conservative South, but she’s taken her love and compassion and is trying to help parents everywhere via her website, isyourchildgay.com. It’s there that Deborah fields hundreds of e-mails from parents in various stages of learning about and coming to terms with their child’s sexuality.
In this special extension of September’s “Mom of the Month” column, Deborah explains in her own words how her activism came to be and how it feels to be a voice of reason for hundreds of moms and dads.
I live in a little town in South... FULL STORY

QuickGym ROM Machine Price: $14,615 Website: www.quickgym.comDescription: The QuickGym ROM (range of motion) Machine is a unique looking piece of exercise equipment that claims to give you a total strength, cardiovascular and flexibility workout in only 4 minutes a day – instead of 45+ minutes. While the makers suggest the machine can benefit everyone, it primarily targets the majority of the population who don’t workout regularly or are sedentary. It’s been around for 20 years but recently got some film time (product placement?) in the blockbuster, IRON MAN 2. The machine is intricately designed with its central component being an 85-pound flywheel, which works as a braking mechanism, creating resistance based on the amount of force you produce... Tags: walk with pride, sarah baxter, charles meacham, photos, web exclusives You may remember we introduced you to Charles Meacham and Sarah Baxter’s “Walk With Pride” photo project earlier this summer. (You can check out the original piece here!). Well, our favorite traveling duo checked in with Instinct recently to tell us how some of their recent Pride stops have been going—and of course to share some amazing photos!
Athens Pride
The WWP project stopped in Athens to celebrate Pride, where thousands of people marched down the main city streets in support of LGBT Pride.
Turkey Trans Pride
Over 500 people came out in support of Turkey ’s first transgender march. The march was held to bring awareness to the rise in hate crimes toward the Trans community. The parade was positively... FULL STORY

When former Instinct cover girl Kylie Minogue sat down for our Soapbox feature in the July/August issue, her new album Aphrodite was on the horizon, her birthday was just around the corner and her sister Dannii had yet to give birth to son Ethan Edward Smith. As it turns out, Ms. Minogue had a lot more to say than we could squeeze into the magazine. So crank up the foxy Aussie’s just-released 11th studio album (you have picked up a copy, right?), and dive into our Q&A with everyone’s favorite dance-pop diva from Down Under.
Hello, Kylie! It’s lovely to be talking with you.
Well, it’s good to be having a bit of an Instinct moment again.
Yes—you were the September cover girl last year.
I loved that... FULL STORY

Featuring gorgeous out men on the cover of Instinct Magazine has long been a policy of the publication, but often our cover models are not fully out of the closet. Michael James, who graced our July/August 2001 cover, posed for the shoot knowing full well his family--which was unaware of his sexuality at the time--might see the story. Though during boyhood he had dreamt of becoming a priest, Michael James let his uninhibited confidence with his body shine and his passion to share his story with the masses reign regardless of his level of outness. We caught up with Michael--who responded to our questions via email from Iceland--to chat about his previously stated distaste for wearing clothing, whether or not he is currently single and how ... You just may be surprised to learn what you should and shouldn’t be doing... FULL STORY

Jessica and Hunter have achieved viral Internet status with their irreverent antics for some time now, but it wasn’t until their amazeballs (one of the duo’s favorite terms) appearance on Logo’s New Now Next Awards (where they were nominated for the OMFG Internet Award) that we realized we were heels over head in love. With cult-hit webisodes, LOL-bringing blogs, TV and club appearances all poking fun at Hollywood and gay cliches, Jessica and Hunter’s shtick penetrates (not an intended play on words, we swear) more than just the modern-day surface-value-celebrating culture they coherently satirize. The pair took time out of a busy summer of publicity appearances, shopping and rehab to chat with us via email (obvsies!) about Botox,... FULL STORY
