On April 5th, Governor Phil Bryant signed into law a controversial 'religious freedom' bill. Opponents call it state-sanctioned discrimination. If you add up all the hatred and discrimination the LGBT community has seen over the last year and put it all into a Venn diagram, right smack in the center would be Jeromie Jones, owner of Cakes by Kake King located in Pearl, Mississippi, the self proclaimed only Gay Black bakery owner in Mississippi.
Jones was recently featured in a couple of CNN pieces, the one below being the most comprehensive.
If you would like to read more about the Mississippi law and see more of CNN's coverage, head over to their original post here.
I wish we could tell Jeromie this too shall pass, but I could never put myself in his shoes. It looks like he is doing well in the business he started in 2009, inspired by a gag gift from a friend (see below).
Searching YouTube, we find this older video from August 2012 where Jones talks about expansion.
We wish you the best Jeromie. Keep your head up. It looks like you have a great support system there. And if you do move, let us all know where you're going!
You can see Jeromie's work through his social media sites.

History
Established in 2009.
The story behind the name is simple I didn't want anything too fancy or complicated so I decided to add a hint of humor and change the traditional way of spelling "Cake" and came up with "JustKaking". I adopted the name "Kake King" from my Instagram family! My ultimate dream was to one day open my own bakery and I'm proud to say that dream finally came true. If you can imagine it, we can Kake It! Our prices are set for affordability and our ultimate goal is to provide great cakes at prices people can actually afford giving them not just a kake but an experience!
Meet the Business Owner
I started baking after a friend purchased a cake decorating kit for me as a joke. Little did I know that kit would be the very tool to spark my imagination and take my life to another level. I've always had a love for cooking and sweets but never considered myself to be a decorator. I started just making cakes for friends and family and once people starting seeing my work via Facebook and Twitter, my hobby quickly turned into a full time passion! I love to see the look on people's faces when they open a cake box and see that their vision has been created into a cake!
