Two young women, one 16 and one 17, were arrested in Morocco because of their "licentious or unnatural acts with an individual of the same sex" a.k.a. kissing. The activity apparently took place on a roof top in Marrakesh, Morocco. When the girls were questioned during their week long detainment, they said they were just friends.
After their week in captivity, the young women were released on bail until their scheduled trial date, but yesterday, a judge put an end to the case by releasing the girls into the custody of their parents "definitively."
It is not often that women, or in this case girls are charged under article 489 of the penal code which prohibits same gender romantic or sexual activity. Many who face court time also face up to three years in jail for their actions.
Do you think the girls were let off easy since there really has not been a precedent for jailing women for such activity?
Do you think the courts will become less strict in regard to article 489?
I loved the Moroccan people
I loved the Moroccan people when I was there. They knew I am gay and still treated me with respect.
