When HOAs Should Have Other Priorities, They Choose to Have Their Minds in the Gutter

I hate Home Owners’ Associations as much as the next guy. The way they purposely ignore you when you put in a request to fix a light post, or when they don’t respond to your images of termite damage, or when they send you citations or warning for putting out a cute planter with succulents when people are hanging laundry over their balconies that are unsightly to the common areas—yeah, I’ll get off my soap box now. But seriously, HOAs can be more problematic than they should when they should be on the side of the residents who pay dues for the good of the community.

Instead, they tend to harp on issues or items that seem trivial while ignoring fundamental matters that perpetuate people’s disdain for HOAs. Take this story from Tennessee where a woman claims her HOA slammed her with a $100 citation because—get this—her car left the shape of a ‘penis’ on the pavement after a snowstorm. Crazy, right?! What a dick move, but that’s HOAs for you!

KUTV reports that the woman initially shared her HOA story on reddit and says the HOA left her a citation with a notice that read:

Your car, specifically the Honda, left this offensive image on the ground. The snow shape apparently violated a rule against “displaying offensive images or slogans.

They also provided photographic evidence of the said “offensive image” providing a hilarious image of would could certainly be considered an outline of a penis, or a rocket ship, or a dog bone, or a minion with no arms, or—come on!

The resident said:

I died laughing y’all. This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of being fined for, and we flat out told them we weren’t paying. Eventually, they realized we were serious about not paying, and since there were no by-laws on the books about something like this, they dropped it.

But these are the type of things HOAs have time to toil with instead of fixing real issues like uprooted trees, pool cleaning, or ensuring that people pick up after their pets.

Am I bitter? Sure. Get with it, HOAs. And get your minds out of the gutter!

Also, move over snow angels, snow penises are a thing now.

  1. Isn’t this one of the most

Isn't this one of the most idiotic things you've ever heard?  Welcome to 45's America, a time when the dumbest things imaginable become national news, and the leader is more concerned with tweeting about Spike Lee than he is about the items that should have his full attention. It will take decades to recover from this if we ever do.
