A Research Center Found That Acceptance of Gay Marriage Is At An All Time High

A Pew survey discovered that more Americans support marriage equality than ever before.

This survey, which came out earlier this month, has been going for two decades now, but this year the Pew Center found some interesting results.

For starters, 62% of Americans are in favor of marriage equality and only 32% are against it.

Then, Republicans are now 47% in support and 48% against. This is a big change from even a couple years ago. Back in 2013, the numbers were two-to-one against same-sex marriage.

Another group that has made a big jump is the Black community. Just two years ago the number for the Pew survey in support of marriage equality was 12%. Now its at 52%.

The survey also looked at age groups such as Baby Boomers and the Silent Generation (those born between 1920s-1940s).

56% of Baby Boomers support gay marriage and 41% of the Silent Generation support it.

In addition, religious groups were surveyed and the results found that 67% of Catholics and 68% of mainstream Protestants support marriage equality.

But, the survey also found that 59% of white evangelical protestants are against it.

Though, it seems that within that group, the younger the protestant the more accepting he or she is of same-sex marriage, but there is still work to be done.

That said, there has been a lot of work put in already. Views are changing for LGBTQ people and gay marriage and that’s something to celebrate.
