Will Aaron Hernandez’s Documentary Touch On His Alleged Hidden Sexual Relationships With Men?

You may be familiar with deceased and disgraced former National Football League tight end, Aaron Hernandez. While he was playing for the New England Patriots, Hernandez was arrested for the murder of Odin Lloyd, a semi-professional football player who also happened to be Hernandez’s fiancee’s lover. He was eventually found guilty of Lloyd’s murder and sentenced to life in prison. As he was facing another trial for a double homicide, Hernandez took his own life in prison. Streaming giant Netflix is giving us a documentary on Hernandez. A big question, however, is will the documentary touch on Hernandez’s hidden sexuality.

Recently, we saw the Academy Award winning film Bohemian Rhapsody seemingly hide Freddy Mercury’s sexuality. It’s common. Last month, we wrote about the possibility of Lifetime covering up convicted murderer, Chris Watts’ sexuality as a man went public with him stating they had a long term sexual relationship. Netflix has previously had credibility in their films before, so I think we are all hoping they touch on Hernandez’s personal life, especially if they mention that Hernandez was molested as a child. Hernandez has countless allegations of being involved with men. Allegedly he had a sexual relationship in high school with the football team’s quarterback, admitted to his lawyer his same-sex relationships, and left a suicide note with the man he was sharing a cell with – who also happened to be his prison lover.

While the above allegations of Hernandez’s sexuality are not baseless, I’m not sure if the content within his documentary will touch on this. As a lover of true crime – and gay storylines – I think we all are kind of hoping we will tune in to see this discussed. What is probably guaranteed to be involved is Hernandez’s father’s extreme homophobia, which could have led Hernandez towards a life of battling inner demons.

Don’t forget to check out the trailer below. Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez premieres on Netflix beginning January 15th. Will you be watching?
