Acrobatic Film Addresses Religion, Love, + Hate From An LGBTQ Perspective

One thing that Pete Buttigieg has done is to give acknowledgement that there are LGBTQ+ people of faith in this nation.  Yes, of course we all knew that there are those in our community that choose to practice religion, spirituality.  But I think many outside our community view us as godless creatures, even if they support our rights. many of us within our community question the existence of religion, usually the one we grew up in and were thrown out of because of who we are.

Matthew Richardson, Director of Creation for The Circus/Queer Project, has created and produced an acrobatic film to address religion, love + hate from an LGBTQ perspective. How do we view religion?  How do we deal with the hate?  Matthew shares:

“Hallelujah” is a queer/circus concept about religion and the importance of choosing kindness regardless of our differences or beliefs. Religion is a tough subject for many in the LGBTQ community, and this piece is a reflection of the struggle and rejection we often feel. It tells the story of an individual troubled by the hate in the world and his partner who is fighting to lift him up, to remind him he is beautiful exactly how he is. My message is that religion should inspire more kindness and open arms, even towards those you may not understand.

The visuals are amazing, the talent impressive, and the message .. well the message may be different for all of us watching.

My goal is to create art that inspires a kinder world for the queer community by challenging social norms, raising questions, and starting conversations. I am creating a series of conceptual videos about gender identity, human nature, queer culture and how the world treats individuals who are “different” but exactly the same. Please subscribe and stay connected to help make future projects possible! By creating performance art that evokes emotion, I hope to deliver important social messages and open minds towards a kinder future.
