Almost Ready: ‘The Boys in the Band’ Broadway Cast Share First Group Photo

The Broadway revival of The Boys in the Band is less than a month away, as the curtains officially go up on April 30th at the iconic Booth Theatre in New York City. Two-time Tony award winner Joe Mantello is set to direct this legendary play, which coincides with the 50th anniversary of its original premiere on Broadway back in April of 1968.

The show centers on a group of gay men who gather in an NYC apartment for a friend’s birthday party. After the drinks are poured and the music is turned up, the evening slowly exposes the fault lines beneath their friendships and the self-inflicted heartache that threatens their solidarity.

It eventually was adapted into a movie back in 1970 that starred Kenneth NelsonLeonard Frey and Cliff Gorman.  The film has a 100 percent positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes and earned Kenneth a Golden Globe nomination.

The new cast, which includes A-list stars like Andrew Rannells, Matt Bomer, Zachary Quinto and Jim Parsons, shared a group shot of them doing rehearsals in Los Angeles yesterday.

Also featured in the group shot are fellow stars Charlie Carver, Michael B. Washington, Robin De Jesus, Tuc Watkins and Brian Hutchinson.  Given that we are in Tony Awards season (June 10th, 2018 is the official date for this year's ceremony), there is little to no doubt that this show will receive a ton of love when the nominations are announced this May.
