Let’s be honest. We’re all a little bit shallow (some more than others). And whether we’re looking for “the one” or “the one for right now,” we first look at the body.
One reality show in Britain decided to focus on that and take away all the other stuff that comes with finding someone to date… like actual chemistry (who needs that?).
Natural Attraction, hosted by the out celebrity Anna Richardson, has contestants pick dates based off of the naked bodies of their romantic options. That’s it.
Of course, the Channel 4 show tries to pass this off as “a romantic experiment,” but we all know what the show is really about. Seeing some skin.
But thankfully, the show does have its moments with being powerful and representative. One of those moments happened recently when two transgender people participated in the show.
Natural Attraction already gained praise for including gay and bisexual contestants, but its latest inclusion of transgender romance options led to even higher praise.
Izzy
The episode featured a pansexual contestant named Izzy who was open to dating people of all genders.
She explained: “I’m attracted to people of all genders. In terms of previous relationships, I’ve been with guys, I’ve been with women, I’ve been with trans people. Basically I’m attracted to everyone!
“I’ve slept with more people with penises, but I’ll work with what I get!”
The producers saw this as an opportunity to include not only male and female dating options, but one transman and one transwoman.
Felix
In addition, the 19-year-old transman Felix, and 22-year-old transgender woman, Isobel, who both haven’t undergone surgery yet, appeared on the show fully naked like everyone else.
After the fact, all three people stated a general positive outlook about the experience.
Izzy approved of the two’s inclusion, “I’m loving that.”
“I dated a transman… there’s obviously certain things you need to be mindful of, and parts of their body they aren’t comfortable with you touching. But you’d pay that courtesy to anyone, though, wouldn’t you?”
Felix said: “It was great to be respected as a guy, regardless of what bits I have.”
Isobel
And Isobel added: “Getting naked while transitioning from male to female definitely was a good experience, especially since I thought I’d get kicked out first round! To get to SPOILERS was just mind-bending, I did not see it coming.”
