Chasten Buttigieg wrote a very simple tribute to his husband Pete after he dropped of the 2020 Presidential race.
He captioned an Instagram post shared on Sunday, March 1, with just one word: “Always”. The married couple appeared to be in good spirits in the photo as they looked out of what appeared to be their hotel window with both having a big smile on their faces. Fans got a little more in depth with their feelings about Pete unfortunately having to drop out of the race in the comments section, with one in particular saying that they were “heartbroken” while another wrote, “You made a difference. You made history.”
CNN’s Ana Cabrera cut to Breaking News during her show to make the surprising announcement that Pete Buttigieg has decided to suspend his 2020 Presidential bid. This shocking news comes quickly –right on the heels of former Vice President Joe Biden’s landslide win in the South Carolina Primary and Billionaire Tom Steyer suspending his presidential campaign over this weekend.
CNN’s Abby Phillip reports sources close to the Buttigieg campaign have realistically calculated after the South Carolina Primary; the math was against the former Mayor as he received only 3% of the African American vote. Indications were that the situation might be amplified as the primaries continued. In a noble act, Buttigieg decided that staying in the race, beyond South Carolina, might hurt other leading candidates. He decided to exit for the good of the party’s focus to unseat Donald Trump.
“Thank you for inviting me into your homes, sharing your stories, and putting your trust in me,” Pete wrote on Instagram after news broke about him dropping out. “We launched our campaign because Americans are hungry for a new kind of politics that brings us together. And together we’ll beat this president and build the era that must come next.”
This leaves six major candidates running active campaigns to become president: Biden, Bernie Sanders, Amy Klobuchar, Elizabeth Warren, Tulsi Gabbard and Michael Bloomberg.
